Speech & Language Therapeutic Consultation
Speech & Language Therapeutic Consultation for Adults
Our goal for all people is the ability to communicate wants and needs in a functional and socially acceptable way. Our highly qualified speech-language pathologists assess each person’s unique communication needs, including the need for assistive technology or AAC devices. Once needs are identified, our clinicians work with the individual and their team to develop a treatment package to meet their needs, including direct therapy and consultation or coaching.
What Does Speech and Language Therapeutic Consultation Look Like?
A licensed Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) will meet with the individual in need of speech and language supports and their team to determine support needs through an informal and formal assessment process. The team will work together to develop goals and outcomes they hope to accomplish through Therapeutic Consultation. The clinician may trial a variety of assistive technology, including high-tech and low-tech devices to determine an appropriate match for the individual to facilitate functional communication. The clinician will then develop a treatment plan that outlines therapeutic techniques, environmental modifications, assistive technology needs, and interventions to try to support the individual in meeting their identified goals. The SLP will request the necessary assistive technology devices and ensure they are received by the individual and their team for use across settings. The clinician will regularly meet with the individual and their team to coach and consult on therapeutic interventions and supports and to encourage appropriate and consistent use of assistive technology devices, if applicable. Throughout the Therapeutic Consultation process, progress or regression is closely monitored and any necessary changes to the treatment plan are made.
